It is no secret that Charleston, South Carolina is one of the top wedding destinations in the country. The Lowcountry’s rich history, lush landscapes, and romanticism have been something to be desired from couples all over the nation. As wedding vendors, I think a lot of us are inspired by this and thrive on embracing the Charleston culture into our own works of art. “The Charleston Wedding Revival” muse originated with, Charleston native and local planner, Elizabeth Elkins with Elizabeth Elkins Weddings and Events. She drew inspiration from early 20th-century wedding trends and merged them with a modern interpretation. The Ashley, a revitalized bed and breakfast constructed in 1852, hosted the perfect, intimate wedding scene with its wrap-around verandas and vibrant interiors. Only Elizabeth’s keen eye would see teal walls and be brave enough to blend in yellow, Jasmine-inspired flowers, and “Charleston green” linens. This symphony of color and elegance was happily married with touches of lace, vintage furniture, and the stunning florals provided by the creative team at Creech’s Florist. This elegant vision was complemented by trendy “buttercup” colored bridesmaid dresses designed by Jenny Yoo from Bella Bridesmaids, classic tuxedos from Berlin’s, and a timeless wedding gown from the Romona Keveza Collection adorned with a vintage lace overlay provided by Maddison Row South. What is a southern soiree without food? Tasty Designs by Tara provided show-stopping, southern, fare. Shrimp and grit cakes topped with pickled okra, filet mignon with potatoes au gratin, oysters, and blueberry cobbler are just some of the Lowcountry staples to be enjoyed when hosting a Charleston wedding. Are you hungry yet? To complete the experience, one of Charleston's few female sommeliers, Brittany Olsen with Love and Bunches, provides the perfect wine pairings. And let’s not forget about dessert! Tenacious Tart, a local baker, provided a traditional, three-tiered wedding cake accompanied by a DIY cake topper. To say that this vision played out to Southern perfection would be an understatement. The invitation suite and menu was laid out in lovely stationery by Studio Ack. Throw in a brilliant model team, hair and makeup by Silhouette On Site, jewelry from Polly’s, and a vintage Aston Martin provided by Whip Dash and you have yourself a revolutionized Charleston wedding. We could not be more thrilled with this AMAZING vendor team and hope to inspire future couples to keep these beautiful southern traditions alive while planning their perfect wedding day in Charleston, South Carolina… circa 2024 and beyond.
